
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Blind You
Ever stepped into a bathroom, flipped on the infrared heater, and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? It’s a common problem. Most of these heaters use short-wave radiation to get you warm fast, but they often come with a side of blinding glare. That’s a real issue, especially if you have kids. Babies have developing eyes, and that harsh light can be way too much for them. We figured there had to be a better way to get the heat without the headache.
Taming the Light
Standard halogen tubes just throw out every kind of light they can. To fix this, we use special coatings and filtered quartz glass. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for your heater. The glass blocks out those harsh blue peaks and high-energy visible lights, but it lets the actual heat—the infrared stuff—slide right through. Instead of a blinding white flash, you get a soft, warm glow that feels a lot more natural.
Heat Without the Glare
The trick is getting the “heat-to-light” ratio just right. We play around with the thickness of the tungsten filament and the gas pressure inside the bulb. By using a thicker filament, we can hit the wattage we need for a cozy room without pushing the color temperature into that “blinding white” zone. You get all the warmth. None of the squinting.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
These are designed to be simple drop-in replacements for your existing fixtures. But, since we’re blocking some of that light to protect your eyes, there’s a tiny trade-off. You might notice it takes a fraction longer to heat up compared to those raw, unfiltered industrial lamps. It’s a small price to pay for not blinding yourself every morning. Just a couple of tips for the install: make sure your housing is rated for the wattage so things don’t get too hot. And for goodness’ sake, wire it to a stable circuit. Voltage spikes are the fastest way to pop a filament, and nobody wants to climb a ladder to change a bulb twice in one month.
