
Keeping Babies Warm (Without Blinding Them)
When you’re designing an infrared lamp for a bathroom—especially one meant for infants—the goal isn’t just to crank up the heat. The real trick is making sure the light doesn’t hurt anyone’s eyes. Standard short-wave infrared lamps have a habit of leaking visible light. It creates this harsh, blinding glare that’s just too much for a baby’s sensitive eyes. The secret to a softer glow We fix that glare by tweaking the light spectrum. By using specific quartz blends and internal coatings, we can block those high-energy visible wavelengths. The result? A “soft light” feel. You still get all the warmth needed to keep a baby cozy, but you lose that aggressive, raw halogen sting. It’s not about making it look pretty; it’s about making sure the light stays safe for the eyes. Heat, safety, and a bit of space We keep the wattage low on these. We don’t want the guard getting so hot that it burns someone who accidentally touches it. To make sure the heat actually reaches the skin efficiently, we use high-purity quartz. But here’s the thing: installation height is everything. If you hang these too low, the heat gets too intense for a child’s skin, no matter how “safe” the light is. Stick to a clearance of at least 1.5 to 2 meters. Give them some breathing room. Keeping things running We use plug-and-play connectors, so swapping a lamp out is quick and painless. Since bathrooms are basically steam rooms, the housing has to be IP-rated. If moisture sneaks in and hits the electrical terminals, the lamp will oxidize and burn out way too fast. And please, make sure everything is grounded. In a wet environment, you really don’t want to deal with leakage currents.
