
Why We’re Obsessed with Electrical Safety for Clean Room IR Lamps
In a clean room, there is zero room for error. No dust, no contamination, and definitely no electrical glitches. When you’re dealing with infrared bench lamps, a tiny electrical failure isn’t just a broken part. It’s a safety risk for the person running the machine and a fast way to ruin an entire batch of expensive work.
We test every single lamp. No exceptions.
Some companies do “sample checks.” They test one out of every ten lamps and hope for the best. We don’t do that. Every single tube that leaves our shop goes through a full HiPot (withstand voltage) and insulation resistance test. It’s a mandatory gate. Here is why: we blast the insulation with high voltage to force any hidden flaws to show up. Maybe there’s a microscopic crack in the quartz or a tiny bit of grit on the electrodes. We want those things to fail in our lab, not in your clean room. If there’s a pinhole leak or a bad seal, the current will arc right there on our bench. That way, you don’t have to worry about a lamp shorting out or leaking current into your equipment frame.
Dealing with the heat
IR lamps get incredibly hot. Like, really hot. That heat causes materials to expand and contract, which puts a lot of stress on the seals and connectors. We choose insulation that can handle those swings without falling apart. But there’s a catch. High-wattage lamps create a massive amount of heat in a small space. If your bench isn’t vented well, that trapped heat can chew through your wiring over time. While we build our lamps to tight tolerances, you’ve got to make sure your power supply matches the lamp’s voltage and current draw. If they aren’t in sync, you’re looking at a premature burnout.
Don’t gamble with your gear
Using a lamp that hasn’t been fully tested is a roll of the dice. One bad piece of insulation can trip the circuit breaker for your entire clean room. Or, even worse, it could energize the metal chassis of your machine. That’s a nightmare scenario. Our process takes that gamble off the table. You get a replacement that’s electrically sound the second you wire it up. It just works.
