Most of those basic heaters aren’t really built for the steam and splashes of a real bathroom. They just can’t handle the dampness. Forget heating the air
Here is the thing about standard heaters: they try to warm up the air. But if you’ve got high ceilings or a loud exhaust fan running, that heat just vanishes before it ever reaches you. Infrared is different. It doesn’t care about the air. It sends out waves that hit your skin and the floor directly. It’s an immediate, cozy warmth. You don’t have to wait ten minutes for the room to “warm up” while your toes are freezing on the tile. You just turn it on, and you feel it. Right away.
The “Water and Electricity” Problem
It’s common sense—water and electricity are a bad mix. Cheap heaters have gaps where moisture creeps into the wiring. Over time, that steam turns into condensation, shorts out the circuit, or ruins the reflectors. Then the unit just dies. We lean heavily on those IP ratings—the stuff with the silicone gaskets and sealed glass—because that’s what keeps the heater alive. To us, a tight seal is way more important than how many watts the machine can pump out. If it isn’t sealed, it’s just a countdown to a breakdown.
A few things to keep in mind for setup
If you’re swapping to one of these, you’ll want to check your wiring first. These units pull a bit more power than a simple light bulb, and you don’t want to be tripping your breaker every time you want to feel warm. And a quick tip on placement: these create a very concentrated “heat zone.” If you mount the unit too low, it’ll feel like a heat lamp at a buffet—too intense. Put them up high and angle the reflectors. That way, the warmth spreads across the floor and feels natural, not overwhelming.
